  • Muslim population in combined India before partition, as per 1941 census was 23%.  
  • After partition, two third of the muslims migrated to Pakistan and 1/3rd left in India. Therefore, as per 1951 census muslims population percentage reduced to 10 %. 
  •  While according to 2001, muslims were 13.4% of Indian population. 
  • Muslims in Indian Army were 2% in 1953 which reduced to 1% in 1990. Currently, muslims percentage in Indian armed forces has marginally increased to 3%. 
  • No Muslim in the Indian army ever made it past the rank of major-general and only eight ever made it that far. 
  • One Air Chief of IAF was muslim ACM Idris Hasan Latif (1978-1981).
